I once experienced this type of false-awakening. I woke up in the dawning hour struggling to breathe, hearing whispers, and feeling something dark and heavy sitting on my chest. In Chinese, this is the phrase for it:
被 - by a
鬼 - ghost
壓 - press, pressure
Or in other words, to be pressed by a ghost. That feels so much more aligned to my experience of it, the horror that is, than the clinical term sleep paralysis.
